I have heard that new taxes will lead to higher prices in 2018, is this true?

Yes. With the legalization of adult use cannabis, the state will increase taxes on cannabis sales at all California dispensaries and delivery services. The specific tax increase will be from 7.875% to 22.875% which is made up of 7.875 sales tax and 15% excise tax. The tax increase will start January 1, 2018. If the patient has obtained a valid Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC) issued by the California and a valid gonvernement issued ID at the time of purchase the patient will only pay the 15% excise tax and will be exempt from sales tax.
